Superior, WI (NNCNOW.com)
-- Wisconsin hunting regulations require all clothing above the waist be 50 percent blaze orange during a firearm deer season.

"It's very important during the rifle season to wear as much blaze orange as you possible can." said Daniel Parkinson, a certified firearm instructor in Superior.

"More is better, I don't think there's any doubt about that."

In the thick woods of Northwest Wisconsin, hunting outwear is a safety issue.

It helps make a clear distinction between deer and human, another safety precaution during rifle season.

"Identifying your target from tail to nose of the deer, the entire deer, not just parts or portions," said Parkinson.

A key factor in never making the mistake of confusing another hunter for a deer is knowing your surroundings, and your hunting party.

"I think it's important to pay attention to all the little things that go into that hunt," said John Krull with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

One thing that officials take very seriously are the hours you can actually discharge a firearm to harvest a dear now you can pick up the 2012 deer hunting regulations almost anywhere and inside is a grid listing all of the hunting hours according to the area you will be hunting in.

"The orange doesn't really matter when the time is up at the end of the day. It just means you don't hunt any longer," said Parkinson.

Certain dangers do arise from this Northland tradition.

"As soon as you pick up a firearm you pick up a responsibility, and that responsibility is yours when you pick it up."

Accepting this fact, and eliminating the hazardous variables from the hunting equation can keep the hunt safe.

Minnesota hunting rules say the visible portion of a person's hat and clothing above the waist, excluding sleeves and gloves must be blaze orange.
