GRAND RAPIDS, (Northland's NewsCenter)--Organizers say it's the busiest day of the year for the Second Harvest North Central Food Bank in Itasca County.

About 1,700 food boxes and more than 1,800 gift bags are given to families experiencing financial hardship during the holidays throughout the region.

Each food box is filled with holiday items and gift bags are filled with children's toys and stocking stuffers.

More than 600 people in the Holiday Program picked up their packages Wednesday in Grand Rapids.

"Anyone who fell through the cracks and we weren't able to take care of today can come in Thursday," Susan Estee, Executive Director said. "What we have left we will be able to distribute to people who weren't referred."

This is the 17th year the food bank has organized the Itasca Holiday Program.
