Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) - Mid March is the peek of tax season which may also have you thinking about your financial situation.

When it comes to getting your finances in order, it's better to do it sooner rather than later.

Lutheran Social Services is helping people do just that through their Empower program.

On Saturday, the organization provided a seminar for the community to get free financial advice who may otherwise wouldn't have.

"A lot of people don't get the help they need because they don't know where to start. So this is really the point for people to get that first start and get the help they need and being able to come in and talk to someone without feeling sold to," said Linnea Stephan one of the organizers for the event who is also a certified financial planner.

The seminar provided volunteers within different financial professionals, from lawyers to certified financial planners, to non- profit organizations to help people better plan their future.

"I'm really glad LSS is doing this because I think it's really important service to provide financial and legal information to people in the community," said Aaron Bransky, an estate planning lawyer in Duluth.

"It's really been fantastic, I've been able to talk one on one, I've been able to get specific with my questions, get specific answers...something I wouldn't want to share in a group situation, so it's been a fabulous experience," said Marian Green, a community member who attended the seminar.

This is the second seminar dedicated to helping community members plan their financial future.

The organization hopes to have one seminar every six months.
