Superior, WI (Northlands Newscenter) - The Food Service Marketplace is the newest attempt by the Mariner Mall in Superior to have a stable business plan.
Longtime Superior Resident, Steve Sorensen says he's attempting to fill a void in the city that he's noticed for a long time.
Sorensen, who owns the Food Service Marketplace says his grocery store will open by the end of the week to provide bulk food retail to restaurants and customers.
Sorensen decided to place his business at the Mariner Mall due to the large amount of space available.
Suzyn Cragin, the Property Manager of Leasing for Mariner Mall, says she's delighted that there are now two anchor retail stores at Mariner Mall.
"Food Service Marketplace is going to be a great anchor for us. You've got them on one end with Yonkers on the other, our Yonkers does fabulous. So we've got two nice anchor stores now and then with food service also having a drive through we're hoping that that will help and maybe start, I would like to start seeing a little more retail come in."
The mall has leased 48 thousand square feet in the last four months, much of it for business as opposed to retail. Managers say this new business model has filled 80 percent of the mall... much better than a year ago.
