Superior, WI (NNCNOW.com) - Superior Mayor Bruce Hagen proclaimed Thursday as 'Mentor Superior' day at a community picnic celebrating those who choose to give of their time to help young people.
Neighbors along with Mayor Bruce Hagen and members of the Superior Chamber of Commerce, celebrated Mentor Superior's one-year anniversary with free food, face painting and even a friendly potato sack race.
Organizers with Mentor Superior say the program is great way to make a positive difference in the lives of youth in the community.
"Mentors act as a friend to kids in the community in Superior. It's really important that we keep it going, we have 30 matches right now that are meeting within the community and they're going strong and building friendships, hanging out doing fun things together. We have a huge need and still need more mentors," said Rebecca Haavik, Mentor Superior advocate.
Mentor Superior is part of a collaboration of six-youth-serving agencies, including the Duluth Area YMCA and the Boys and Girls Club of the Northland.
