Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) -- October is National Substance Abuse prevention month and one Northland company has made that its mission year round.
If you have ever applied for a job, you might have noticed your company may subject you to random drug screenings.
Instead of having employees go off site to do the test, one company will bring the test to the employer.
"We found a niche, where we can go in and do testing on site for these companies to provide these employees with some convenience," said Jane Perrin of Perrin Mobile Medical.
Her company is one of only a few mobile drug testing contractors in Minnesota.
She serves industries from mining, to construction, to retail.
While many companies perform mandated drug tests others test for a different reason.
"Companies are doing a lot of drug testing not just because they are mandated, but they find that if they advertise themselves as a drug free workplace they tend to attract more high quality workers," said Perrin.
One industry that is required to do drug testing is the transportation industry and for Voyager Bus Company it's about one thing.
"Its all about safety, which is what our industry is about," said Rudy Lundahl, operations manager for Voyager Bus Company.
Voyager which operates school buses has been using Perrin Mobile Medical for the past nine years and officials say it has been the best way to administer the test.
"It truly is a matter of time, time spent versus calling the person in having them drive downtown, go park, go to a collection site and return back...that took an hour and a half versus having them come in the door and being done in ten minutes," said Lundahl.
Perrin says the Department of Transportation mandates employees be tested for alcohol, marijuana, cocaine, amphetamines, opiates, and PCP.
