SUPERIOR, WI. --- An important new opportunity for Wisconsin Anglers: today the City of Superior officially opened the Arrowhead Fishing Pier.

Located on South Highway 53 just after the Bong Bridge, the pier is a revamped version of an old crumbling railroad bridge that folks had fished on for years.

However, due to safety concerns and an overall shabby appearance, the City raised more than five–hundred thousand dollars for the re–model.

The new and improved angler access includes a wider boat launch, public bathrooms, a picnic shelter, and of course a handsome looking walkway right over the St. Louis River.

"Oh, it's a great fishing spot right here," said fundraiser Bob Brown who helped secure about 140,000 for the project through Wisconsin's Coastal Management Program.

"In the spring, the walleye run goes right by here, going up the river to do their spawning, then back down the river out to the lake. So this is one of the premiere fishing spots right here."

Organizers say the total cost for the new pier was over $800,000. The project began last fall.
