TOFTE, Minn. - If you are looking to lose weight and can take a couple weeks off to kick start a healthy lifestyle, there's a new facility along the North Shore opening up to help you do just that.

Four and a half years ago, Sheryl Babbitt went to a fitness boot camp.

"Ive always loved Lake Superior and I just thought, wouldn't it be just wonderful to have a program, like where I went up on the North Shore."

The thought turned into Fitness North.
The new live-in health program will host its first group of weight-loss hopefuls later this month at Surfside at Superior Resort - all the way up in Tofte, Minnesota.

But she did get help.

"She began to tell me about the program and I said nah, no let me think about it ...I said nah, I don't like it, I love it," said O'Neal Hampton Jr.

The two loved the spa in the resort and the location.

"We got hiking trails, canoe, the water. I mean it's so many things, it's just the serenity of being up here, the serenity of being outdoors, said Hampton.

He says the trainers and program can compare to those on the hit TV show "Biggest Loser", and he should know. He and his daughter Sunshine were contestants.

"It's practically a carbon copy of what we did on "Biggest Loser", said Hampton.

There is one difference Hampton noted.

One of the largest aspects of the Fitness North program is focused on making behavioral changes in the kitchen.

"Although this is a group experience, the nutritional aspect is tailor made to the individual," said fitness and nutritional trainer Leif Anderson.

Since both shared weight-loss struggles, the co-founders, Hampton and Babbitt, have grown close.

"If you would have told me six months ago that this would be going on, I wouldn't have believed you, but it is. He's my ying to my yang, or vice-versa," said Babbitt.

The two say the program will hold them accountable as well.

"I want to be able to say that, yes, I will never be 400 pounds again," said Hampton.

Hampton and his daughter Sunshine will be speaking at an open event at the resort October 30 about their time on "Biggest Loser."
