Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) - For the past 12 years, area firefighters have raised money among crews and their families to go toward the Salvation Army's Toyland Express toy drive.

This year, crews raised $3,000 and bought enough toys to fill at least a half–dozen shopping carts.

According to crews, helping kids in need is what being a firefighter is all about.

"Growing up, I didn't have it exactly great either, and this would've been really nice to have as a child too. It's just nice to touch other people in the city, and give a little back to the community; that's what firefighters do," said Joe Pyrlik, of the Duluth Local 101 Crew.

The toys will be distributed to Northland kids Wednesday.
