Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) - Rachel Sandell lost her year and a half battle with liver cancer on October 16th.

Tonight friends, family and community members gathered together to celebrate Rachel's life.

It was an evening of laughter, tears, and a whole lot of love as friends reminisced about their beloved friend.

"Rachel was hilarious. Anyone the knows Rachel just knows how funny she was. She was strong, obviously you know she did this battle through cancer. She was just wise, wise for her own age," said Anna Adatte, a best friend of Rachel's.

It was a night of celebration...something her friends and family say Rachel would have wanted.

"She didn't want a funeral, she didn't want anything sappy and I think the main thing was just to have a big celebration together, celebrate all of her achievements and everything she's done," said Adatte.

Pictures of Rachel filled the school this evening...images that are sure to stay with her friends forever.

"I think it's so that people when they look back and they remember her, that they remember the fun stuff about her, not towards the end when she wasn't feeling so well," said Anna Little, a fellow friend of Rachel's.

Not a dry eye was left in the auditorium as friends told stories, sang and read her tweets...the dance team Rachel was apart of also gave a special performance in her honor.

"We just want to make sure that tonight her spirit and her personality got across to everyone and everyone could remember all the fun things and all the good times with her," said Little.

Good times that her friends will not soon forget.

"We'll miss her, I think everyone kinda has an empty spot in their heart right now," said Adatte.
