Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) - Iowa City, Iowa native, Zach Wahls, was raised by two lesbian mothers and claims it was as normal of an upbringing as any kid could hope for.

The 21–year–old says his major concern with the proposed state marriage amendment is that it will effectively end the ability for same–sex couples to offer benefits to their children if something unfortunate was to happen to a partner.

Wahls says, when it comes to marriage, commitment and love should be the determining factors.

"People here, in the Midwest, know that families are defined by love, and that really is the most important thing. So, in that respect, my family was perfectly normal growing up," said Wahls.

Wahls became famous after his 2011 testimony to the Iowa House of Representatives, when Iowa was considering a constitutional amendment that would end marriage for same–sex couples in the state.
