Superior, WI (NNCNOW.com) - There are still many questions left to be answered over the merging of the animal shelter and the humane society in Douglas County.

The Superior committee of the whole heard more about the costs and the planning for the facility Tueday night.

The committee decided to hold the issue in committee until more questions can be answered.

Among the questions are; how big would this joint facility be and how much is it going to cost and who is going to pay for it?

The city of Superior is debating between a 6,300 square foot facility and a 9,600 square foot facility.

It would cost $2.3 million for the 6,300 square foot facility and $3.1 million for the 9,600 square foot facility.

Between those, how much of that cost would fall to the city and Douglas county.

Superior has already committed $2.3 million to the project, but that still leaves some gaps in funding.

It leaves about an $800,000 gap for the bigger faciliuty.

They also need to come to a consensus on where to build the facility.

However, Superior Mayor Bruce Hagen is optimistic that the facility will be under construction by the middle of this year.

"I'm encouraged...its been up and down and yay one day and nay the next as far as how this is happening but im encouraged that this is going to be able to accommodate the right size facility with the help of donations and capital funding..." said Mayor Hagen.

Combining the humane society and the animal shelter has been an ongoing process for about four years now.

There are a lot of stakeholders involved and the city wants to make sure the facility will properly accommodate all the animals which is contributing to why it's taking so long to come to a decision.
