Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) - Don Leighton and supporters have raised 31 thousand dollars as part of the third annual Hunger Takes No Holiday campaign.

The money is going to the Second Harvest Food Bank in Duluth.
The donation will pay for 155–thousand meals in the coming months for those in need in the Superior/Douglas area.

Leighton says the donations came from area businesses and community members... even gradeschoolers, who didn't have much to give but wanted to help regardless.

"He reached in his pocket, pulled out a fist full of change—4 pennies and a nickel—he's got 9 cents, and he says, 'will this help?' The secretary broke into tears apparently, when this happened," said Leighton.

Leighton's original goal was around 20 thousand dollars, and says he never imagined raising more than 30 thousand.
