Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.COM) The city will make $86,000 available to community parks through grants.

The funding is part of the Parks Fund Neighborhood Grant with a maximum award of 5–thousand dollars per request.

The goal is to support projects and initiatives which will enhance and improve city parks and recreation.

Tom Storm, the Executive Director of the Chester Bowl Improvement Club, knows first–hand how important grants are to parks and recreational areas.

"We have a partial grant to buy a new snowmaking machine for next year and so we're in the process of trying to raise additional money so that we can purchase a snowmaking machine for the fall of 2013."

Proposals will be reviewed by a committee, with recommendations for funding presented to the Parks Commission.

Final approval will come from the Duluth City Council.

Grant applications are due on April 1.
