Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- Minnesota Twins star Joe Mauer was in Duluth Tuesday taking some time off during the 2011 MLB All-Star Break.
The first public sighting of Mauer came at Burito Union, where the former American League MVP ate lunch with his girlfriend.
From there, Mauer made his way to the Northland Country Club for a round of golf during his first-ever trip to Duluth.
"I've never been here before," Mauer said. "I just wanted to try to get away from everything, but I guess word got out today."
Mauer missed a majority of the first half of the season with various injuries after signing an eight-year extension with the Twins worth $184 million.
The 28-year-old made his major league debut at first base as well this season, after injuries riddled the Minnesota lineup during the first half.
After his round of golf, the former All-Star was asked if he had any advice for teammate Michael Cuddyer, who is the lone Twins representative in the 2011 All-Star Game.
"It's a pretty hectic couple days, and I just told him to make sure he enjoys it as much as he can, to soak it up" Mauer said. "You never know when you'll be able to go back, so have fun with it."
