Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) - The UMD alpine ski team is preparing to make their mark in a national competition.
Both their men's and women's teams have qualified for nationals in Idaho.
This is the ninth year that the team has qualified for nationals. It's a feat that their coach says is rare for a college team and one that's the result of a lot of hard work.
"They put in a lot of hard work, a lot of dedication, a lot of training time," said head coach, Jason Grimm, "They're out here on Saturday, one of their very few free weekends, putting in four to five hours [of practice]."
Team members have to pay for their own trip to nationals, which will cost them each about $1,100.
They're holding a fundraiser at Five Guys Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. for anyone that wants to help them fund the trip.
