Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) - Audrey Rowe, USDA Food and Nutrition Service Administrator, was in Duluth to eat lunch with children participating in the district's summer meals program, and tour the school's new kitchen.

Rowe said it was part of a nationwide tour, highlighting the USDA's new school meals standards...a key component of the Healthy Hunger–Free Kids Act of 2010.

According to Rowe, the best way to make successful, healthy adjustments to school menus is by listening to their biggest critics.

"These children are my customers. I want to hear what they have to say, and then I want to put the appropriate people together to take a look at it. And, if what they're saying... is factual, then what do we do about it," said Rowe.

According to Rowe, the Duluth Public School District is well on its way to meeting the new meal standards.
