VIRGINIA, MN (Northland's NewsCenter)---Virginia Fire fighters have taken to the street to raise money for a good cause.

It's part of the annual Fill The Boot fundraiser for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Fire fighters weave carefully in and out of high traffic areas asking motorists to drop dollars and coins into their fire fighter boots.

The fundraiser will continue until Friday from 2 to 6 p.m.

Fire officials say donations have come in steadily.

"Most of the time, people are just rolling down, handing us monies," Dustin Erickson, a fire fighter said. "Sometimes there is people that don't know what we are out here doing and we explain to them. Usually people are more than happy to donate some of their money."

The tradition has been going on since the 1950s and has helped raise more than $500 million dollars nationwide.
