DULUTH, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) - The saying goes, "Love don't cost a thing", but for weddings, that's another story.
One lucky Northland couple won the Dream Wedding Giveaway Wednesday, and will get a free reception.
With anxious couples waiting, Northland's NewsCenter morning anchor Courtney Godfrey made the big announcement.
Anna Plys and David McParlan won.
Back in high school, Anna only had a crush on David.
They connected later in life when she was waitress, and he was hungry.
"I kinda mumbled over my words and introduced myself and he had remembered," said Plys.
Then later during a long walk in the woods, he proposed.
The free reception includes a catered dinner and champagne toast in the Greysolon Ballroom by Blackwoods for up to 350 people.
"We were just amazingly overwhelmed, just the support we've seen this past week people sending us emails from Austria, China and all over the US saying that they're rooting for us," said Plys.
The couple entered the contest with dozens of others and made the cut to the final six.
Their love story was shown to thousands, and viewers voted them the winners.
And now it's back to planning with a few changes.
"We'll be able to invite more people of the people that have meant a lot to both of us and to our families, and now we can finally start planning," said McParlan.
Now, they have a better idea of how their wedding day will go.
No finalist went home empty-handed. The other five couples got hundreds of dollars in gift certificates, jewelry, and entertainment, among other prizes, so everyone got some help with their wedding plans.
