Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) - The wind Saturday wasn't enough to keep young snowmobilers from revving their engines on Pike Lake for the annual Ice Oval Race.

It was hosted by KC–PRO East, a youth snowmobiling organization based in the Northland. Racers ages four to fourteen, from as far away as Ontario, came to battle it out with the hope of winning a trophy.

Organizers say starting kids young, helps them become better snowmobilers.

"Kids start out young and they have a respect for snowmobiling and the safety rules and they have a fun time doing it," said Vice-President of KC-PRO East, Tim Jorgenson.

The race was supposed to happen last week, but had to be postponed due to warm temperatures and melting ice.
