Flooding Forces Highway 61 Closure

May 24, 2012 Updated May 24, 2012 at 8:36 PM CDT

Grand Marais, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) - Flooding has forced the Minnesota Department of Transportation and the Minnesota State Patrol to close Highway 61 approximately one mile west of Grand Marais.

The State Patrol has detoured all other motor vehicles via Birch Road and Cook County Road 7 to Highway 61.

State officials believe that the flooding is due to a blocked drainage pipe east of Cutface.

Motorists are advised to drive with caution in the area and be alert for water over roads.
