Duluth, MN (Northlands NewsCenter) -- "Weather" it was walking or running, lunch break Thursday turned into a meet and greet on the Lakewalk in Duluth. As people leisurely made their way along the sidewalk, Ilona McMIlion had one hunch as to why people were outside.

"Well just to take advantage of the beautiful sunshine, the beautiful lake, fresh air and good exercise.

McMillion who walks three times a week, was happy to mingle her way through the crowds. Sammy Loeks of Duluth didn't realize the good fortune the sun was going to bring us when he started his day.

"So I woke up this morning saw that it was going to be like 40 degrees out today and decided to put on the running shoes to head outside, was with a partner for a while, my finance and I, new years resolution time and now I'm flying solo for a little bit here."

And with all this talk of crazy temperatures and high heat, people got the motivation to do some pretty wild things today.

"Well I'm thinking if it's that nice and it stays that nice I might do one and one half. Come back and do it again."

As crazy has that might seem, the 40 plus degree temperatures allowed for clothes to be shed, including ankle protection. Loeks says it's still a bit too cold for that.

"I probably wouldn't do the shorts thing either, but you know what, I guess they're trying to be festive and maybe like through the shorts keeping the warm weather coming."

Despite various parks and skiing trails being closed due to the lack of snow, plenty of people found a hobby in the warmth.
