Red Flag Warning Issued for Park Point Beaches

July 4, 2012 Updated Jul 4, 2012 at 8:37 AM CDT

The Duluth Fire Department has issued a Red Flag warning along all Park Point beaches, effective immediately and in place until further notice.

A Red Flag means a High Risk of rip currents, which can quickly pull swimmers out to deeper waters and present life-threatening situations.

Due to the risk, authorities are asking beach goers to stay out of the water.

When conditions improve, authorities will lift the swim advisory.

Lifeguards are not present at Park Point, and so all persons regardless of swimming experience are advised to stay out of the water.

Be aware of flags at 12th St beach, Lafayette Square, and Park Point beach.

More information on conditions and rip currents can be found by visiting the National Weather Service Duluth website: http://www.crh.noaa.gov/dlh/
