Tornado Sirens To Sound As Part Of Severe Weather Awareness Week

Many counties will sound their tornado sirens twice Thursday to get Minnesotans ready for nasty weather.

It's part of Severe Weather Awareness Week.

The first tornado drill will be held at 1:45 p.m. statewide for schools and businesses.

In many counties, a second drill is scheduled for 6:55 p.m. for workers on the second shift and those at home.

Cass, Becker, Lake and Winona counties will take part in the
evening drill this year.

That means 66 of Minnesota's 87 counties will hold the evening drill countywide.

Because of continued flooding, the Grand Forks, North Dakota,
National Weather Service won't take part in the tornado drills.

That decision affects 18 counties in northwestern and western
Minnesota.
