The Wisconsin Spring Youth Turkey Hunt started April 9, 2011 and it didn't take Carson, age 10, from Iron River, WI long to squeeze the trigger for his very first Turkey! He sat patiently early in the morning only to find out that the spot that was selected was actually too close to the roosting Turkeys so after much sitting and calling from his guide, he, his mother and their volunteer guide packed up shop, had some breakfast and headed back out. After a short ride, they spotted some birds across a field, they hatched a plan, tip toed, crawled and held their breath to get to the perfect spot for cover and gave it another shot. It didn't take long for this 25 pound Tom to start heading their way, shortly after this Tom started his approach he realized he was being followed by another curious Tom and he couldn't run fast enough. Before you knew it, the turkey was in a mad dash to get to our plastic hen before his follower and within the blink of an eye, Carson had the gun up, hammer back, one breath and BAM!! His first Turkey, great memories with mom and the start of an avid outdoorsman!
