All here is my fishing story.......

So, there we were minding our own business 2.5 miles out on the ice of Lake Superior. Trying our hardest to catch some salmon, but to no avail. When all of a sudden WAMM Todd Deeth sets the hook and stands up Holy %&#@ Todd this is a big fish he says. I have never had one on this big Todd continues. After I regained my senses I asked him if it is big enough where I should reel up my line. Good Idea says Deeth. So I am thoroughly excited now and start throwing things out the door of our little ice shack. Seat, bucket, tackle, and my rod all go flying out the door.

Deeth is such a nice guy he convinced me to try and reel the fish in. Keep in mind now he didnt think it could be done, because all we had was a little Swedish pimple with a small treble hook on it. A St. Croix rod and reel with only 12lb test line on it!

So for the next 30 minutes I fight this monster fish! It takes a lot, then I get a little, it takes more, I get less…….. it continues…… After about 30 minutes the fish starts to tire, and I have it back below the hole. I little more fighting and I say to Todd Its coming up, you should be able to get a look at it. Todd drops down and peers through the hole and says #&! its a big ass Sturgeon. I told him to get ready because its coming back around, then I saw it FILL TWO holes! Man this thing is big! Get ready Todd here it comes. As the fish swims past the hole again Todd dives his arm and grabs its tail and pulls!

Now here we are 30 minutes later with about 2 feet of the tale of this Sturgeon in the fish house. Whats next…? We dont have a gaff. So, I grab hold and pull. Nothing. I said hold on Todd let me get my gloves. I put my gloves on and pull. Nothing! Then I hold the fish while Todd puts his gloves on. He and I both pull… Nothing! Then Todd gets the idea. Tie a rope to it he says. So I made a slip knot with the rope that is tied to our fish house, and slip it over tail of the fish, and swapping hands with Todd, all while trying not to loose the fish.

OK… We got it tied up, so I stand up and pull HARD! I got about another foot of the fish in the house before the rope slips. Redo the knot. We pull again, and get about another 6 inches of the fish. Redo the knot. On our third and final pull we land the Sturgeon. The fish measured 62, and weighs approximately 54.58lbs! It was hooked at about 4:00pm on 1-3-08 and finally landed on the ice at 4:45pm!

So thats the story folks.

Thanks for reading and enjoy the pictures.
