Lakeshore Lutheran hosted the First Annual National Kidney Foundation Duluth Kidney Walk. Patient's with chronic kidney disease, dialysis patients, transplant patients, families, friends and health care providers all joined to gether to help raise awareness about kidney disease. Funds earned today will go to support the National Kidney Foundation's "Kidney Early Evaluation Program" (KEEP).
Chronic Kidney Disease is a public health problem affecting 26 milliion people. One in nine American adults have kidney disease and most don't know it. Risk factors for kidney disease inculde diabetes, high blood pressure, and family history. KEEP is a free program offered by the National Kidney Foundation that is open to the public that allows people to come for a free, confidential health screening to see if they have signs of kidney disease,
The next KEEP screening will be held October 1st, 2008 at Lakeshore Lutheran. The public is welcome (and encouraged) to come and participate in this free screening. To learn more go to www.kidney.org/news/keep
