The 1954 Mercury XM-800 Dream car
is to be sold at the RM Automobiles of Arizona Auction
on Friday January 22, 2010.
The Mercury XM800 is considered to be the most significantly designed concept car by the Ford Motor Companies that did get into private hands. Any top collection or museum has only to do the math to figure out that this car would brings great fame to the collection or museum.
An example of this philosophy is the museum that purchased and currently features the 1954 Oldsmobile F-88. The museum has multiple fabulous cars from all eras but they feature as their logo car the Oldsmobile F88 concept show car.
It is noteworthy that Chrysler and General Motors had any where from 15-30 cars escape the crusher and end up in private hands, but because Ford was family owned they had better control of how their concept cars were put to rest and only six Ford Dream/Concept/Show cars are known to have escaped the crushers blow and get into private hands.
The offering of this car for sale to the collecting public at this time will undoubtedly shock the collecting community.
This is not a RARE OPPORTUNITY but an almost IMPOSSIBLE OPPORTUNITY to purchase this holy grail of all Ford concept cars.
The XM-800 recently completed a frame off restoration by Tom Maruska of Lakewood Township near Duluth. The entire history of the XM-800 including complete coverage of it's recent restoration can be seen at www.tbirdsquare.com.
