The Duluth Polar Bear Plunge, presented by local law enforcement to benefit Special Olympics Minnesota, is coming to the lakeside at Canal Park on Saturday, February 20, at 3:00 p.m. It's a unique opportunity for individuals, organizations, and local businesses to support Special Olympics athletes.

Register at www.specialolympicsminnesota.org, then raise $75 online, and you'll get a chance to win a 2010 Ski-Doo MXZ600 snowmobile with a custom Labovitz School of Business and Economics/Special Olympics paint scheme designed by a UMD School of Fine Arts student. Helmet and clothing are included!

Take the Plunge!
Students, faculty and staff at UMD's Labovitz School of Business & Economics and across the entire UMD campus have also been issued a personal invitation to "Take the Plunge" by Dean Kjell R. Knudsen.

"In the Labovitz School, we have a long history of outreach and engaging students and staff in community causes," says Dean Knudsen, who has pledged to take the plunge himself. "More specifically, Richard Brown, a newly named Senior Fellow at the Labovitz School, is on the board of Special Olympics Minnesota. When I proposed to our administrative committee that we partner with Special Olympics through Richard, it was unanimous. It's a great thing to do, and I hope we can get lots of people to take the Plunge."

A record year for Special Olympics in Duluth. More than 600 polar plungers and an increase of $40,000 over last year. Lets start early to make next year's event even better. Lawrence Johnson - UMD's LSBE

What better way to beat those dog days of Winter, then to escape the heat in the cool, clean, refreshing waters of Lake Superior. Come join, and while doing so supporting athletes that perhaps wouldn't have such access to competition.
