Returning to Sammy's after 50 years

In 1960-61, I was a full-time student at UMD and also worked the Joel O. Bodin Furniture Co. Night Sounds show at WEBC Radio, the "Big Independent", Channel 56. 11:00PM-5:30AM. Some of my "compadres" at WEBC were Lew Latto, Dick Gotchald, Chuck O'Day (Helmer), Sandy Sandquist, Ralph Doty, Dr. Don Rose, Dick Huestad, etc. Six nights a week, from the Glass Tower high above 4th Avenue West and Superior Street, "Fabulous 40" hits entertained the Northland.

On my way to work I would stop at Sammy's for my "dinner" at the 1st Street store. The last time I had one of their Original pizzas was 50 years ago. In April, I will be returning to Duluth for the sole purpose of enjoying an Original pie. It's been a long time coming.
