My husband is in the military and I work as a teacher here in Duluth, MN. We both grew up here in Duluth and met in college. Tradition in our families has been incredibly important to us. When we met, his family had Sammy’s pizza every Friday night. Once we began dating seven years ago, he introduced to me their Friday night pizza and Sammy’s pizza was always a place we enjoyed. This became a tradition for us as we dated and continued to grow. Seven years ago he wrote “I love you” on a napkin (from Sammy’s), he still keeps it with him today. When we got married, every Friday we order pizza either sitting down at Sammy’s restaurant, getting the take-n-bakes, or delivery. We always look forward to Friday nights spending time together and eating pizza after a long week. Once Sammy’s pizza became a tradition for us we turned my family into pizza lovers every Friday and it has brought all of our families closer together. My husband has been deployed since October and the first thing he wants to eat when he gets home ….Sammy’s pizza of course!!! My cooking was never at the top of the list. He will be returning in the next month and we are so anxious to spend time together again with each other, our family, friends, and eat Sammy’s pizza. Our families have taught us how important it is to value where we come from, who we are, and we have incorporated the Sammy’s family into our traditions as well and will continue to do so as our family grows.
