When working in Hibbing, Mn in the early 1950’s I would frequent the new Sammy’s Pizza 3 or 4 times a week and that’s when I became a pepperoni lover!
Now living in Two Harbors, my wife and I through the years have made the Sammy’s Pizza in West Duluth and Downtown Duluth our two places for a meal treat!
One Saturday evening we treated ourselves at the West Duluth Sammy’s to our usual Family Size Pepperoni with a pitcher of Coke. After devouring it, we left for home in Two Harbors. Within 5 minutes my wife said she thinks she is having a heart attach with severe chest pains. I immediately raced to St. Mary’s Hospital going through every red light that I confronted. Upon entering the emergency garage entrance, she was rushed to emergency room where all of the bells and whistles were hooked up to her. She was told that she had suffered a heart attach. After a few hours and many more tests she was feeling better and was kept over night. The next morning they said a mistake was made! After going over all of her test results there was no heart attach, but that next time she visits Sammy’s Pizza she needs to slow down and just have one glass of the soda pop! Later that month the bill came in the mail and we often laugh about our $ 10,000 pizza!
We continue to make Sammy’s our weekly tradition, nothing can keep us away!!!
