My name is Sara Merrier. My husband and I were fishing at East Lost Lake in Underwood, MN on Monday, July 26th at 9:00 pm when I hooked into a big fish. It felt heavy but wasn't putting up a great fight until I got it to the dock and saw the mouth reach out of the water. My husband said it was a big walleye. I thought he was mistaken because the lake is not known for high numbers of walleye and trophy ones at that. Sure enough I kept the rod tip up and kept the fish on while my husband held our 20 lb daughter in one hand and netted it in the other off the edge of the dock. What teamwork!
It measured at 28.5 inches and 9.5 pounds. The resort owners were on site after I caught it and said it was the "Great Grandfather" that I pulled in!
I will never forget that one.
